Notice to My SHC Community Tracked Panel Members

In accordance with a settlement with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, this notice provides information to My SHC Community members who downloaded and installed the My SHC Community tracked panel application (the Application) on their computers.

Removing the Application

Between April 2007 and January 2008, the Application was presented as a download option to some Sears and Kmart website visitors. A relatively small number of visitors responded favorably to this option. In July 2008, after Sears chose to terminate the program, our vendor used an automatic uninstall process to remove the Application from the computers on which it had been installed. We believe this process successfully removed the Application from the overwhelming majority of computers.

If you believe the Application still resides on your computer, you should be able to remove it by using the “Uninstall a program” or “Add/Remove Programs” function – typically found on your computer’s Control Panel –to remove the application called “mySHCCommunity.” If you would like assistance with this process, please contact us at 1-888-286-9616 or support-team@myshccommunity.com and use the phrase “My SHC Community Tracked Panel” in your communication.

Information Collected by the Application

When installed, the Application monitored all of the Internet behavior that occurred on the computer on which it was installed, including both normal web browsing and the activity undertaken during secure sessions, such as filling a shopping basket, completing an application form or checking online accounts, which may have included personal financial or health information. While the Application collected such information, we did not use, view or analyze it. We made commercially viable efforts automatically to filter out confidential personally identifiable information such as UserID, password, credit card numbers, and account numbers, and made commercially viable efforts to purge our database of any such information if it was collected inadvertently.

The Application was designed to track the pace and style with which information was entered online (for example, whether clicking on links, typing in webpage names, or using shortcut keys), the usage of cookies, and statistics about the use of online applications. The Application was also designed to collect certain basic hardware, software, computer configuration and application usage information about the computer on which it was installed (including such data as the speed of the computer processor, its memory capacities and Internet connection speed), and the devices connected to the computer, such as the type of printer or router connected.
